NASCAR has seen tremendous change over the last decade. Once the sport’s rise came to a halt and the recession struck, stock car racing struggled. As a result, the sport began making changes and took a turn late in the first decade of the new century. However, the adjustments made then weren’t very effective.
Nearly a decade later, the changes NASCAR has implemented over the last four years are beginning to pay off. Never before have we had as many questions as we do in 2013 regarding the racing we’ll see in the upcoming season. The Gen 6 car has changed everything around and those changes bring many questions as we head into the upcoming season. Questions that we still don’t have answers to. By mid-season, the Gen 6 car should show its true potential and we should be in knowledge of what kind of racing the car will bring. With the uncertainly of what’s to come this season with everything that is new, the power rankings I list below could be completely true by season’s end or entirely wrong. They’re some drivers who you know will do good and then there are some, that you are up in arms about. My pre-season power rankings give the best forecast I can regarding the upcoming season. With the new Gen 6 car in 2013, anything can happen on the race track. We could see things happen that we haven’t seen happen in years. We may also see new and never before seen things occur. That’s what makes predicting the upcoming season so fun. Anything could happen, right? So why not throw out the possibility of my three bold predictions coming true? A forgettable 2012 is now behind RCR and they are preparing to make 2013 a better year. One win last year wasn’t a typical statistic for RCR in a single season. Kevin Harvick had the most success on the team with a win and a Chase birth but, RCR will be losing their best driver in Harvick at the season’s end. Will it be a smart move for RCR letting their best driver go after 2013? No but, team-owner Richard Childress believes he has young talent in his two grandsons moving up through the ranks of NASCAR. 2013 will surely be interesting at RCR.
