RPM Finds Little Success at Charlotte
By Jason Schultz
A hopeful weekend for Richard Petty Motorsports turned bad by a lousy finish for both the No.9 and No.43 cars at Charlotte. Aric Almirola started the weekend off good by getting his first career Sprint Cup Series pole award and to make things even sweeter for RPM, Marcos Ambrose started second. Both the No.9 and the No.43 started off strong by exchanging the lead back and forth. Eventually, Greg Biffle would pass Marcos Ambrose for the lead but Ambrose would go on to lead some more laps later in the race. Almirola never seemed to recover after falling back through the field through the first 112 lap green-flag run.
With the pole, Almirola gained rights to the number one pit stall, for easy access in and out of the pits. That never seemed to come in handy for the No.43 team. Almirola did manage to lead a few laps during the night. Marcos Ambrose did retake the lead after the first caution came out and Ambrose led the field to the restart. Continue reading →
Kahne Wins His Third Coca Cola 600
By Jason Schultz
Kasey Kahne won his first race driving a Hendrick Motorsports car Sunday night in Charlotte. Kahne was making his 300th career start in the Sprint Cup Series, and there’s no better way to celebrate than with a win. Denny Hamlin was unable to catch Kahne in the closing laps and Kahne went on to win his third Coca Cola 600. Pole sitter Aric Almirola was passed just after the start by teammate Marcos Ambrose. Almirola would eventually lead a few laps before being passed again by Ambrose. Greg Biffle would take the lead from Ambrose on lap nine. On lap 15, Ambrose would inherit the lead once again. Then Biffle took the lead from Ambrose on lap 23.
On lap 45 the first round of green-flag pit stops began. Biffle remained the leader after the pit stops ended. Before the first caution came out, another round of green-flag pit stops had concluded. On lap 112, the first caution came out for debris. Coming to the restart, Ambrose lead followed by; McMurray, Biffle, KyBusch and Kahne. On lap 121 KyBusch would take the lead from Ambrose. Late Strategy Helps Keselowski Earn Nationwide Win at Charlotte
By Davey Segal/ Edited By Jason Schultz
Brad Keselowski crossed the finish line first today at Charlotte Motor Speedway, but there was much more drama into how that ending took place. Keselowski opted to stay out while everyone but Kasey Kahne pitted after the caution came out for an accident between Jason Bowles and Josh Richards.
While mostly everyone took either fuel only, two tires or four tires, Keselowski, who ended up winning, did none of that. Keselowski held off the rest of the field after that with about 50 laps to go and won the race. Continue reading →
